Duncan Duane Hunter (born December 7, 1976) is an American politician serving as a U.S. Representative from California since 2009. A member of the Republican Party, he represents parts of San Diego County; California's 52nd congressional district from 2009 to 2013 and subsequently California's 50th congressional district.
This district covers much of inland San Diego County, including the cities of El Cajon, Escondido, San Marcos, Santee and Temecula. Prior to his election, Hunter served in the U.S. Marines from 2001 through 2005 and in the Marine Corps Reserve until 2017. Hunter was elected to the congressional seat after his father, Republican Congressman Duncan Lee Hunter, who had represented the district in Congress for 28 years, decided not to seek reelection in 2008. Duncan D. Hunter is running for reelection in 2018.
In 2017, the Department of Justice began a criminal investigation of Hunter for alleged campaign finance violations. In August 2018, Hunter and his wife were indicted on charges including conspiracy, wire fraud, and violating campaign finance laws.
